A Little Idea.

Super Rookie @ 3:34 pm

I read about a cool hill race competition that takes place in Pittsburgh, PA called the “Dirty Dozen,” on Barbara Howe’s diary on Cyclingnews. As you can tell the hills in Pittsburgh are a lot steeper than the ones around here, but I am thinking of doing a similar style event in the spring or summer here in Minnesota. Basically it would be a group ride to the different hills in the area and then I would award points to the top 5 riders: 7, 4,3,2,1. The winner at the end of the 5 or 6 hills and 40 miles of riding would be the winner.

The hills (the ones I can think of for now):

Ramsey Hill
Ohio Street
Commercial St. to Mounds Park/Dayton’s Bluff (St. Paul)
Franklin Ave to the Witches’ Hat (Prospect Park)
St. Anthony Blvd to Deming Heights Park (NE)
Lowry Avenue at Central to Johnson (L) to 3400block (highest point in Minneapolis)
Climb Out of Hidden Falls Park

The ride/city street race will start at like 8am. It would be a bad ass ride on quiet streets in the morning.

Awesome.

ColdSprints #2 In The Books

Super Rookie @ 11:29 am

Wow.

So far the events have raised almost $800 for the Second Harvest Food Shelf!

We had a ton of people show up last night and I am sure the pictures will be around. Perhaps the biggest compliment I heard all night was from people that they were excited to see such an eclectic mix of people at the downtown Grumpys. All types of cyclists were out, messengers, posengers, roadie snobs, track elitists, non-racing speedstix. You know? Tons of people and everyone was having an awesome time.

I am stoked for Franz, aka Ted Schmidt, who won in a close battle with Darrin Homme and Maria Stewart who took out defending champion Linsey Hamilton. Hell, tons of roadies/trackies from the MCF world came out and threw down. Aric Hareland, James Tainter, Taylor Olson, Matt Allen, Andy Frye, Kevin Schaeffer etc…

Even more MCF’ers were in the crowd; Bob Williams, Mark and Ed Stewart, CHRIS FERRIS!!!!, Steve Roundtree, Hwood, Timmer, Gene-O, Elena Dorr, Brian Crosby, Rider X, Spencer Haugh etc…it is endless.

A packed house and another successful event.

Check bikethrow later for more info.

Holy Hawks Batman!

Super Rookie @ 4:17 pm

The Hawks on Sunday will play in front of the first sell-out crowd at a regular season game against a non Detroit Red Wings team for the first time in 10 years. Not only is this huge it is also a game against the horse-crap Los Angeles Kings. I am so stoked for my Hawks and all the people that work at the United Center that are finally able to take in some good hockey and make some nice money.

Way to go Hawks!

Oh snap. Can you say 5 in a row?

They just beat Nashville and this awesome fight broke out after the final horn. Watch the fight and then wonder in amazement at the fact that the Blackhawks player, Jason Wisnewski, sprained his knee prior to dropping the gloves and still kicked Tootoo’s ass!

Game. Set. Match. Hawks…and fists.

Go Hawks.

Coldsprints Friday Friday Friday!

Super Rookie @ 5:31 pm

Tons of people are going to be at the Coldsprints event Friday night at the Downtown Grumpy’s. Last month we had over 65 people try out the system, and now we have it down to a science and have arranged for some of the booths to be moved in the back room to allow for some more space for our contestants and fans. This will be a fantastic improvement.

I am really excited about helping to bring this event back for the 2nd installment, but it could not of have been possible without the awesome sponsors listed on the flyer above. You should thank everyone of them for helping make this event a reality. Especially, Landon and his RetroSoft branded software. It is amazing.

I hear Brad Huff’s partner might come in to throw down.

I am thinking that more people will come from the organized cycling community, but there still seems to be some hesitation on their part. the general cycling community has seemed embrace the idea of this competition, but the uscf stylee seems to be slow in understanding. maybe it is the promotional people behind it, maybe they don’t care, maybe they are lame.

i am beginning to think it is a combination of the latter and being apathetic.

oh well.

that is their right, but it is also their loss!

Way To Go Bing.

Super Rookie @ 5:07 pm

Some of you have probably seen this by now, but off of Fixed Gear Fever and Brian Crosby’s blog there is news of the Burnaby Six Day event in which Brian “Bing” Crosby will be partnered with Brad Huff. Huff as you may know is a multiple national champion in the pursuit and an all around nice guy.

Start List
1. Svein Tuft (Symmetrics) / Zach Bell (Symmetrics)
2. Colby Pearce (Slipstream Sports) / Mike Friedman (Slipstream Sports)
3. Kirk O’Bee (Healthnet) / Kenny Williams (Cody Racing)
4. Christian Meier (Symmetrics) / Cody O’Reilly (Successful Living)
5. Brad Huff (Slipstream Sports) / Brian Crosby (Major League Cycling)
6. Dave McCook (ProMan Cycling) / Roman Kilun (ProMan Cycling)
7. Kevin Suhr (Cody Racing) / Ryan Luttrell (Cody Racing)
8. Cody Campbell (Symmetrics) / Mark MacDonald (BiciSport)
9. Daniel Holloway (US National) / Iggy Silva (US National)
10. Max Vives (Calyon Litespeed) / Charlie Vives (Calyon Litespeed)
11. Will Goodfellow (Calyon Litespeed/Martin Swiss) / Mike Norton (Calyon Litespeed/Martin Swiss)

Bing is slowly moving his way out of “Not Pro” to “Pro” on my linkage.

P.S. What is Major League Cycling? I assume that it is the name of the team that Bing raced for in Europe, but it sure as hell isn’t the team that doesn’t want to be mentioned on BikeThrow.

You Betcha!

Super Rookie @ 9:42 am

Sarah and I live just 1.5 short blocks from the old King of Clubs bar on Central Avenue. Perhaps the most important thing to ever happen in the history of that dump of a bar before it was torn down for some condominums was the opening scene of Fargo, when it was featured as the bar where Jerry Lundegaard (William H. Macy) met up with the two bumbling hit-men Carl and Gaear…

I kind of miss looking at the playing card, but what can you do?

Anyways, to make a long story short…

Sarah and I are heading up to Brainerd and at times along the drive I feel like we are going up to Brainerd and I might just get pulled over by Sheriff Marge. I promise to obey the speed-limit, but at times I want to test the limits of the law so I can make Sheriff Marge get out of the car and write me a ticket :)

I can’t wait to get up North and hang out with future in-laws. It is always an awesome time.

Have a wonderful few days everyone!

Is this photo doctored?

Super Rookie @ 4:17 pm

It sure looks like it to me.

Or, maybe Levi just has a huge head!

(Cyclingnews)

That is a funny looking dude!

Gifts! Way Late.

Super Rookie @ 12:24 pm

I got a bunch of cool CD’s from Sarah for the holidays. I made a list a few weeks back of about 10 albums that I really wanted, but just couldn’t afford and some of them were duplicates of cd’s that were stolen from me over 3 years ago that I have just missed and wanted to listen to again. While I know that I could buy these songs for an iPod, there is just something about having the material CD.
What albums did I get?

I am pretty damn stoked right now. Nothing like rockin’ out to some old music mixed in with a little bit of the new. Bringing back the memories of the radio show and when I first started out as a bike courier a few years back. Sweet.

I hope all of you have a fantastic holiday season, except those haters out there.

I am a little late to the party, but I figure I could provide these links to you might fine folks:

Video of the Ryan Trebon crash at Cyclocross Nationals that rendered him unconscious and out of contention for the National Championship. Watch it here.

My ex-favorite rider Tyler Hamilton signed up for what was my favorite team. Now, I am just a confused young man who doesn’t know who to cheer for when it comes to lycra freaks. Maybe, I will stand by my Rock Racing guys…I don’t know, but signing Botero was one step in the wrong direction. Maybe I will go and get a pair of jeans just to have Tyler sign them. Or, maybe I will fax them to his wife so she can sign them like she allegedly did for the bills for Dr. Fuentes.

Maybe Tyler will become my favorite rider again. All I know is that I hope to get a picture of him making the face of pain at the NVGP if they come (I sure hope they come, but I have the feeling they won’t bring Tyler do to the crit focused event…but maybe the BikeFestival will lengthen the road courses…hint to BikeFestivals…increase the course length for Tyler!).

My Submissions To Frye’s Contest

Super Rookie @ 10:54 pm

Here are the two photos that I have come up with for the Frye Photoshop Contest:

1.

2.

There are a bunch of other photos from the likes of Smithers, Tenacious T and a boat load of others.

Heck, even T.C. got in on the action and his should be appearing soon.

Photoshop Explosion.

Super Rookie @ 6:03 pm

Yesterday I did a little post about the article on Coldsprints that the Tribune ran. Little did I know that this photo would appear on the back pages of “Source” section in full color. When I saw that this morning I instantly thought of 10th grade Study Hall at Como Park High School. I bet that by 9am my face had been decimated by thousands of feral youth across the great state of Minnesota, and that Ezra was the victim of major speech bubbles and devil’s horns.

I passed this along to new Bike Throw dot com employee Andy Frye and he agreed that I have been defaced in many ways. He then thought it would be wise to do a photoshop contest of the picture:

(Photo: Star Tribune)

I am sure there are dozens of you out there that will get in on this action, many of you will insert the gratuitous phallic image, but I am sure that some of you can be creative. Hell, check out the recent editions of skibbyshop and Tenacious T. This should be a fun one.

My dad called me the other day. He left a message it went a little like this:

Tim, I don’t know if you can hear me over the air conditioner, but I just came inside from doing yard work to put on some sunscreen and grab an ice cold Margarita. Hope all is well with you guys. Give us a call.

Thanks a lot dad!
