I have been following a story for a few weeks about a gentleman in Raleigh, North Carolina that installed guerrilla wayfinding signs in order to get people out of their cars and on to the side walk. The general principle is to tell people how far something is away by walking, and not by mileage.

The thinking is that people will be more inclined to walk if they know the time it takes, rather than the distance.

Naturally, someone complained about the signs being out of code and they were taken down last week. Nonetheless, the city planning director seems to be a huge fan of the signs and is working on finding a way to get the signs up to zoning code.

Awesome.
Something like this should be done here in Gainesville.
