As always this isn’t associated with my kick-ass new team; Grumpy’s/LGR or it’s sponsors.
………………
As you may have heard the Tour of 10k is making a comeback for the 2007 season.
Or is it?
Due to a lack of dedicated volunteers the race is on the brink of extinction once again. Before you go out and quote me as a know all source just remember that this is based on observations from recent MCF meetings and emails/messages.
What is known is that a dedicated promoter has stepped up to run the Tour of 10k and other positions on a steering committee have been filled. This is very important for the success of the event. There is however a huge lack of dedicated volunteers to help make the race a go. In order for the race to receive the much needed funding from the MCF, the board of directors has formally requested a proposal that outlines the sources of volunteers, budget etc… I feel this is a very legitimate request as the MCF has never been asked to take on the financial responsibilities of an event.
The major sticking point among other things seems to be the lack of volunteers.
Only three teams have officially declared themselves to helping produce a stage or overall the event:
Grumpy’s Bar/LGR(State Fair Crit)
Birchwood/GIS (Memorial Day Time Trial)
MCT(General Promotion)
One other team has declared an interest in helping produce a stage, but has a lack of members to do it alone:
Flanders/MBRC
Where in the hell are the other teams of the MCF?
I will give a free pass to Loon State as they are responsible for over 30% of the races in the MCF alone and for them to sacrifice another race in the season would be a terrible injustice. I am sure that I am not alone in my gratitude for Skibby, Delaney and all the other Looners out there that help make the MCF calender awesome.
But, I can’t understand the lack of interest to help from any other club in the MCF. I am not asking you to do quit promoting other races…I am asking for you to provide 5-10 volunteers on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday to help make this race happen.
How many road races have you been in when there is over 30 people in the feed zone?
Can’t these friends, family and other important individuals mark a corner for us instead of handing you a lame water bottle? If it is between getting water during a race and ACTUALLY being able to race I think you might just put a bottle in your jersey pocket. I know this may be a simplistic approach, but if the Tour of 10k is such an important event on the MCF calendar than the clubs and individuals that partake in this event should work like hell in trying to make sure it happens.
If it doesn’t happen you will have no one else to blame but yourself, team, club or unattached status.
Don’t come crawling to Grumpy’s, Birchwood, MCT or Flanders.
We actually had the balls to step up to make this event happen at no benifit to ourselves or club.
………..
Before you start emailing this to everyone you know remember that I don’t speak for my club.
If I did I would be the first to tell you that we are doing other things for the MCF this season as well. We are trying to bring back the Campus Crit and a new cross race out at the velodrome, as well as, starting up a brand new Track Rider Of the Year program up at the Velodrome in Blaine.
So if you can’t tell the difference between an opinion and an official viewpoint you can go screw off.
I can’t race due to family obligations so I plan on volunteering. If I could, I’d commit right now to helping LGR out on Friday Night. For now all I can say is that I will be available for at least 1 of the 4 stages, possibly 2. I posted a message on the Cat 6 board asking all those on our team that are not racing to consider helping out.

If I volunteer can I still do the races; have my cake and eat it too? This could be a good way for us UA riders to help out.

For what it’s worth I will say that I would love to see the Tour of 10K survive. And I DO speak for Team Clif Bar Midwest.
Good luck fellas… I hope it all works out in the end.

I’m sick and tired of all the bad attitude from the Grumpy’s/LGR team.
So if you can’t tell the difference between an opinion and an official viewpoint you can go screw off.
If I can tell tell the difference between an opinion and an official viewpoint can I still go screw off?
I just want to screw off.

Urthel beer’s kind of nice, why so harsh.
Since when doesn’t MBRC have enough members to put on a race?

Amen… Right on brotha!

MBRC has plenty of members to put on a race. Problem is, they only have 1 member who wants to put on a race…

Red’s editorial:
Less team talk, more photos of SR eating dirt at the BMX track!
If I wanted politics I’d watch the TPT legislative coverage (which, BTW, is currently covering the early childhood education legislation; gripping! Think of how well we’d all do in our college math classes if we had had that.)
