As you may know the Tour of California is going on as we speak out west. This race is fast becoming the biggest race in the country. A lot of big teams are coming with the big guns to mix it up against some of the best domestic teams in America. Being from America and a fan of the domestic pro scene I was disappointed when Velonews featured a photo gallery of the prologue time-trial on Sunday without one picture of a domestic racer! Every picture was of the Euro teams and I think that is crap.
Domestic teams have sponsors to please, but the sponsors aren’t getting any return on investment with out any photos. Granted I don’t need to see every team represented BUT when the 2nd and 3rd place finishers are from smaller domestic teams I think it would be pretty bad ass to show that…so I thought I would write a letter.
My letter:
Dear Editor-
I would like to thank you for the wonderful Casey Gibson photo essay on the prologue of the Amgen Tour of California.
I was unaware that only Discovery Channel and Team CSC were the only participants in the race.
Thanks for expanding my horizons.

Hate to say it, but I have to agree with the editor. Something a little more constructive, along the lines of your post for example, would probably have been more effective.

Hunh? Really? “More constructive”? The dood’s the editor of a major US cycling mag. If SR had attempted to be “constructive”, the editor would’ve scoffed and said, “What does SR know about publishing?” and pooh-poohed it.
SR obviously struck a chord…a chord that’s probably been struck several times on this editor judging from that reaction.
Way to rock the boat, SR. Well-placed sarcasm…good job.
