Ouch.

Super Rookie @ 11:15 pm

I went down yesterday in the last race of the night. The worst part about crashing is the first shower you take!

I was lucky.

Dan-O and Ted Schmid got it really bad in the 4/5 race earlier in the night.

My crash took down 3 others; Currel, Dubay and Register. Register got it worse with a bruised shoulder. Currel and Dubay are missing some skin and I am just sore as hell.

By the time you read this we are on the road to Rhode Island. Tons of blogging will be done!

  1. Ok, the PR stunts are going a little too far, guys. No more crashing!

Seriously, I hope Dan-O keeps smilin’, and Rookie didn’t bruise his ego too much. (thanks for the voicemail, man. Gwen is setting up another ‘team night’ July 16th if you want to partake)

    Ride on, Grumpy’s/LGR!

  2. You’re not helping me want to try track racing…

  3. I thought people didn’t crash on the track?

  4. You ride a bike, you run the risk of falling down. However, I still think the track is safer than your standard road crit. Last weekend in Mankato both the Poofter and the Directeur Sportiff got crashed…

Don’t you CX guys have some dismount remount practice to do?

  5. [...] I was not there, so I don’t have any first hand info, but it sounds like it was Eat Shit Thursday at the track last night. [...]

  6. after pulling splinters out of dan’s ass for an hour last nite, he went in first thing this AM for urgent care dental work, and no longer ‘looks like a hockey player,’ (minus the excessively swollen upper lip). thanks again to you & matt, even if you looked like you were returning an injured war buddy back to his concerned SO. hope youre holding up alright, and best wishes to the others involved in the crashes last nite, and a speedy recovery. safe travels, also – see ya when you guys get back!

    *grumbles*…stupid bike racing… ;) xo

  7. I wondered why super-rookie kept coming over to apologize. Like what did he do? I didn’t realize you were throwing yourself under the bus–so to speak–as the causer of crash. I thought it was Curel and B Doobie getting tangled. Guess I only saw what I could see. What actually happened?

Would I rather go with the broken collar bone than the teeth thing? My owie is cheaper, even though I’m bummed about not being able to race for a long time. Still, I hate having whacked teeth. Must hurt a lot.

Track is way safer than crits. I’m el-crapo at CX and always mangle myself. Now I avoid CX. TT’s are usually safe, and most RR’s with experienced riders. This was my 5th crash in 15 years at the velodrome, and the worst by far, even though almost no rash/burn/splinters this time.

I’m working on an exoskeleton riding suit with bionic assist so I can ride with you guys in September. Back to the Laboratory.

BTW: the last name is spelled REGESTER.

The comments on the track were getting pretty heated over on the Smithers Blog. Those guys really love whacking each other with words. Testy, testy…. MMMMMMM, you gotta love that testosterone.

  8. no,no.
rookie just ran into the crash with no where to go, as you did.

i think he was refering to “his crash”, only to differenciate between “his”, dan’s, and megan rockers.

lots of carnage last night, i think it was the full moon.

  9. As a new beginning racer, I think I need to stop reading these blogs. :-)

Track is the worst….no, no….crits are THE worst….no, no CX is horrible….no, no…..

Missing teeth, broken collar bones, I’m afraid pretty soon there will be some post about the worst cycling injury you’ve ever had…

  10. The more I thought about it, I realized I misunderstood what Super-Rookie said. S-R was behind me after all.
I see (dis)spencer has set it straight. Thanks. Yup, we were just in the wrong spot with no where to go.

My bottom line on crashing: Life is dangerous. If you want to be safe, stay in bed. This will lead to certain premature death. If you want to live life to the fullest and as long as possible, get out and enjoy it, with all its bumps and bruises. Enjoyment = bike racing, especially track racing!

Look at how long I’ve lasted. I’m gonna go as long as its fun. Do I look as old as most guys my age? Do I ride as slow as most guys my age?

I feel better that I wasn’t the only one who was suffering! Tough ride, but good company.
