MCF Meeting A Grabbag of Sucksess and Follies

Super Rookie @ 12:12 am

The MCF accomplished something tonight. While I wasn’t able to stay for the whole thing I would like to attribute all that positively happened to the rare appearance of Timmer!

A brief summary:

-The MCF approved my proposal of setting up a “First Time Race Loan.” I mentioned this idea at the last meeting with the purpose of having some funds available for newer teams that might need some cash to put on the race. I like to call it the “Cat6 Act” Now one of the coolest clubs in the state whom doesn’t charge dues can have access to money.

-The MCF also approved $2000 for the purchase of a second trailer at the track. I am pretty stoked about this as we will now be able to store our bikes up there at the track instead of wishing we could keep our bikes up there. This is just another step in making the track the marquee area of the city.

-The Tour of 10k is on! Our team Grumpys/LGR is hosting the first stage. Tentatively slated for the Fairgrounds on the Friday of Memorial Day Weekend we are very excited to help welcome all of the cyclists of the Midwest to the big event.

-Kenwood was denied its request of hosting the State Cross Championships. This is because Kenwood refused to pay the MCF surcharge of $1 per rider. For a total of +/- $225. This is complete crap and I have lost all respect for Kenwood. The race was listed on the MCF calendar and the MCF sanctioned it as the State Championships through the USAC.

-Startbikeracing.com has been picked up by SteveCX from Cat6. He is a prime example of what the MCF needs to function: dedicated volunteers!

What was left on the agenda:

-Decision of State Crit Championships. Either the Northfield Crit on July 4th or the Capital Crit on June 2nd. I personally would like for the State race to be the Capital Crit, but the date is way way way to early. I would prefer to have all State races in August thus forcing people to work all season. I don’t know what was decided…

-A gentleman from SPBRC had a proposal for a PR deal. It seemed to be a perfect fit for helping raise the profile of the MCF. I am stoked if this was passed.

-The MCF structure was going to be discussed. This idea was hatched among quite a few clubs and I hope something was done about creating committees to help decide schedule, promotion and/or awards. The Track is already doing this!

“MCF Follies”-stolen from NickleNuts

-I left at approx. 8:45 and the meeting was slated to end at 9pm. There was a lot of stuff accomplished but there was more that needed to be discussed. Why is there not a meeting every month, or at least every winter month and bi-monthly during the season?

-Lots of stuff that was discussed should have been brought up on the message board to help speed up the meeting. We don’t need to rehash the same things over and over.

-The fact that Kenwood has the gall to promote a race and utilize the MCF calendar and not pay the surcharge! Says a lot if you ask me.

Thanks Timmer for showing up and doing everything you said you would do. You have now been granted clearance to go ape over everything.

We need a guy like you!
